The extent of pollution in our oceans continues to cause growing concern. <\/p>\n\n

A recent study, published on Monday August 7, 2023 by Nature Geoscience<\/a>, reveals encouraging news about marine plastic pollution. The amount of plastic waste in our oceans is currently lower than estimated by previous studies. However, this reduction, while positive, does not mitigate the significant weight of this pollution, which continues to grow at an alarming rate of 4% per year.<\/p>\n\n

Researchers estimate that between 470 and 540 thousand tonnes of plastic waste end up in the ocean every year, seriously threatening marine ecosystems. Marine pollution includes plastics, as well as hydrocarbons, heavy metals and other toxic substances. Faced with this environmental crisis, innovative initiatives are emerging to counter this growing threat. Among these initiatives, “I Clean My Sea” and the bold “Plastic Odyssey Expedition” stand out for their creative approaches and commitment to ocean preservation.<\/p>\n\n

One of these innovative initiatives is located in Biarritz. I Clean My Sea<\/a> has given birth to a revolutionary boat dedicated to the fight against marine pollution. This vessel is equipped with an intelligent collection system that filters plastic waste and other pollutants from the surface of the water. The use of advanced technologies enables this boat to navigate efficiently in targeted areas, thus contributing to the preservation of marine ecosystems. I Clean My Sea embodies local commitment to a clean ocean and serves as a model for other coastal communities.<\/p>\n\n
