Chroniques judiciaires : trois d\u00e9cisions de justice en faveur de la biodiversit\u00e9 | Parc national des Calanques (calanques-parcnational.fr)<\/a><\/p>\n\nThree cases concerning offences committed in the heart of a National Park were heard by the Marseilles Court on Monday January 2. The rulings handed down punish the offenders and send a strong signal about the determination of the Marseille Public Prosecutor’s Office to make environmental protection one of its priorities. <\/p>\n\n
Convictions for four poachers arrested in the Calanques National Park<\/h2>\n\n
Prosecuted for poaching in no-take zones, four poachers were found guilty of the offences documented in an investigation carried out by the National Park’s environmental inspectors.<\/p>\n\n
The defendants were each fined up to 3,000 euros and ordered to pay 3,000 euros in joint and several compensation for damage caused to the National Park and to nature.<\/p>\n\n
Convictions for illegal dumping<\/h2>\n\n
Prosecuted for illegal activity and burying waste in the heart of the Parc National des Calanques, in a transition zone between Town and Nature, a contractor was fined 6,000 euros and ordered to pay 10,500 euros to the Parc National des Calanques, including 3,500 euros in compensation for damage caused to the Parc National and 7,000 euros for ecological damage.<\/p>\n\n
The scale of the sentences handed down underlines the seriousness of the offences and the irreversible nature of the loss of biodiversity. It should also be interpreted as a signal that attention is being paid to the dumping of waste outside towns and cities. <\/p>\n\n
Convictions for illegally transporting passengers at sea<\/h2>\n\n
A shipowner was found guilty of transporting tourists into the heart of the National Park outside any regulatory framework, thus compromising the National Park’s efforts to provide a sustainable framework for activities on its territory.<\/p>\n\n
