Duration of The Yachter captain's course Course duration

Between 6 months and 1 year, e-learning at your own pace, depending on the level of knowledge you've already acquired, and following The Yachter method and recommended work schedules.

Examination period captain 200 captain 500 Examination period

2 examination sessions at an officially approved Belgian center: April and October (limited number of places).

The Yachter's trainers have French, English or Belgian qualifications and have and are fully conversant with these training curricula.

The Yachter training objective Training objective

Upgrade the level and skills of candidates whose experience as yachtsmen or professionals qualifies them for the Captain Master 500 GT Unlimited licence (Master Commercial Yachting 500 GT Unlimited), a licence of command allowing professional sailing and/or motor yachting.(trans-oceanic or Pacific).

Prerequisites for Yacht Captain training Prerequisites

- Pleasure boating license (or higher) required for final exam. You can also take the diploma as an independent candidate, with the support of The Yachtsman.
- English: school level.
- Navigation experience: candidates must have maritime experience enabling them to carry out the usual maneuvers required in all navigation conditions.

Captain Master 500 GT UNlimited (Master Commercial Yachting 500 GT Unlimited)

At the end of each module, you take an assessment quiz. Some modules also include a corrected exercise. At the end of all modules, you take a final quiz to validate your theoretical training. For practical training, you will be assessed in person.

11. Electronics: Electrical aids, AIS Radar introduction

12. Bridge procedure: All bridge procedures, normal procedures, routines, emergencies, distress, dockside, at anchor, underway...

14. Helm orders, maritime vocabulary and the role of the Captain


15. Training Book

An optional 5-day module is offered 3 times a year in Marseille. It consists of 4 days of theory review and exercises and 1 day of practice on the same vessel you will be using for the exam (sail or power). This module is a priority for students with a low level of English.
