16 July 2016The Cape Corsica and Agriate Marine Natural Park was created by decree on July 15, 2016.
This Park, in which all local players will be represented, represents a new opportunity for the Isle of Beauty, already a pioneer and exemplar in the protection of its natural land and sea areas. France’s eighth marine nature park, covering an area of 6,830 km², is the largest marine nature park in mainland France.
Local Park objectives: management guidelines
These management guidelines are set out in the founding decree:
- To improve knowledge of the natural and cultural components of the coastal and marine areas around Cape Corsica and the Agriate, through the inventory, collection and development of scientific knowledge, local knowledge and participatory research.
- Raise awareness, empower and support the various publics so that their practices meet the challenges of sustainable development and the preservation of marine biodiversity.
- Preserve, or even restore, the integrity of marine and coastal ecosystems, in particular that of the park’s rare or emblematic habitats and species.
- Contribute to the characterization, assessment and improvement of water quality, essential to the proper functioning and condition of the marine ecosystems of Cape Corsica and the Agriate.
- Create and maintain a dynamic so that business and leisure activities make the park an exemplary model of sustainable and equitable development, open to innovation.
- Reclaim local maritime culture and pass on a passion for the sea: a place of escape, freedom and duty.
