6 November 2025Registering a pleasure boat with NUC is an essential step if you want to operate your boat professionally. In this guide, you’ll find all the administrative steps you need to understand how to NUC-register a yacht, and follow the complete registration process.
Process for registering a NUC or NUC-NUP vessel
Use case:
Purpose of request: conversion of a pleasure craft to a NUC – NUP vessel.
Vessel: engine 11m39 (so 12m<) – motorization: 2 x 300 hp outboard
Category: – 5nm (cat 4)
Circuit: Day charter 9h – 18 h : Departure port du Brusc (Var) : direction Sanary – Bandol – Les Embiez – return port du Brusc : 3 or 4 stops at anchor.
Note: This process serves as a BASE. Depending on your objectives and unfortunately the people you will be dealing with, there may be variations or additional requirements if the boat is over 12m and if it is a sailboat.
1- Send your request by e-mail to your local DDTM

In general, the documents to enclose with your application :
- MSN declaration: this is the declaration of work in progress
- Declaration of conformity : DEC
- Ship registration certificate
- MMSI number
2 – Fill in Cerfa 15806-03

Request by e-mail to the DIRM in your area.
Read the documents and the list needed to complete the cerfa form.
In return, the DIRM sends the form showing the professional number assigned to the vessel.

3 – Contact the Ship Safety Center (CSN)
Objective: audit appointment and professional navigation license.
PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT WITH THE CSN :
Have at hand :
- Vessel: Professional number sheet, current registration certificate, insurance
- Captain: command title if required, reconnaissance visa if required, professional insurance
- Documents created: safety equipment maintenance log, safety chart with ship map + safety equipment, welcome passenger briefing, Safety briefing
A visit to the ship at dockside, then out to sea for various trials.
4 – When the navigation permit is obtained
- Send navigation permit to DIRM for final registration
- Gives NUC or NUP/NUC registration certificate, depending on choice

5 – Go to the Cerbère account: create your space
Create your space, then access the Shipowner’s Portal, submit your navigation permit, then apply for afitting-out permit.

6 – MMSI: contact ANFR
Contact ANFR to give the vessel’s new registration.
Ask to keep the same MMSI.

7 – Sending the new registration to the insurance company
8 – Navigation permit renewal request
Validity period: 1 year for the first inspection, then 5 years thereafter.
• Gather identification documents, permits, and vessel information.
• Verify current procedures and forms.
• Submit the application (ideally within 7–10 days).
