23 November 2022Fire on board is an incident that can endanger the boat and its passengers. In this short video, Yachting Monthly shows us the practical use of fire extinguishers on board a boat.
A reminder: in the event of a fire on board, do not use a fire extinguisher on a frying pan. The only solution is a blanket, fireproof if possible, or any heavy, non-synthetic garment to smother the flames.
Fire extinguishers are divided into 3 categories:
Class A Materials that burn, such as wood, fabrics, paper, rubber and plastic.
Class B Liquids that burn, such as gasoline, kerosene and grease.
Class C Electrical equipment
Gas extinguishers should be placed in the engine hold, as gunpowder can cause considerable damage to the engine. On motorboats, a small outbreak of fire, which is quickly corrected by sprinklers, can considerably increase the workload.
