Duration of The Yachter captain's course Course duration

Between 6 months and 1 year, e-learning at your own pace, depending on the level of knowledge already acquired, and following The Yachter's method and recommended work rhythms.

The Yachter's trainers have French, English or Belgian qualifications and are fully conversant with these training courses.

As a future Captain, you'll be able to improve your skills and prepare for the Captain Master 200 GT (Master Commercial Yachting 200 GT) licence, which allows you to work as a professional skipper in sailing and/or motor yachting.

Prerequisites for Yacht Captain training Prerequisites

- Pleasure boating license (or higher) required for the final exam. You can take it as an independent candidate in parallel with The Yachter course.
-English: school level.
- Navigation practice: candidates must have maritime experience enabling them to carry out the usual maneuvers required in all sailing conditions.

 

Training modules
Captain Master 200 GT (Master Commercial Yachting 200 GT)

At the end of each module, you take an assessment quiz. Some modules also include a corrected exercise. At the end of all modules, you take a final quiz to validate your theoretical training. For practical training, you will be assessed in person.

An optional 5-day module is offered 3 times a year in Marseille. It consists of 4 days of theory review and exercises and 1 day of practice on the same vessel you will be using for the exam (sail or power). This module is a priority for students with a low level of English.

At the end of each module, you take an assessment quiz. Some modules also include a corrected exercise. At the end of all modules, you take a final quiz to validate your theoretical training. For practical training, you will be assessed in person.

All The Yachter training modules are followed by self-assessment quizzes, except for certain modules which are corrected by the trainer. At the end of the modules, the final quiz. The student's progress will then be entered into the training logbook presented at the exam.
The candidate will also be integrated into the self-help WhatsApp group.

E-learning training

ACCESS TO OUR TRAINING PLATFORM

Taking the theory test

1. When The Yachter considers the student ready, he or she takes the theory exams at an approved center, validating the STCW modules (KB VII/14KB VII/15 for the Master 200 GT licence) in a 4-day face-to-face session and a 2-day distance learning session.

2. If the candidate does not hold the Hauturier license, CFBS, CRO or CGO, he/she may be offered to take the required exams in parallel with the Captain Master 200 GT (Master Commercial Yachting 200 GT) Captain training course.

3. To obtain their licence, candidates must provide proof of the required time at sea (it is not necessary to provide proof of at least 6 months' Enim) and submit their seaman's CV.
